We hope that summer has been treating you well. As fall is right around the corner, Socorro Striders and Riders have been planning our 2021 Fall 5k Series. Covid is, yet again, changing our approach to bringing you a fun, community building 5k series.
This season, we hope you will join us in some way for our first ever hybrid 5k Series. So long as health mandates and protocols allow, you will have the option to run each of our four fall races with our SSR community in-person OR on your own/with your own group ANYWHERE. If it is necessary, we will be able to easily pivot to a virtual only option (we don't anticipate needing to do this but it's good to be prepared!) All are welcome and included for both in-person and virtual options: kids, adults, beginners, experienced, racers, joggers, walkers. And, if you're not in Socorro, please join us via the virtual option. It was quite fun to see folks from all over THE WORLD participate along with our local friends and lend support to some fabulous Socorro groups.
We are back at it this season donating the proceeds from our races to the community. Our list of recipients and in-person race dates is as follows:
-Sept 18th: Socorro Hospital
-Oct 9th: Socorro High School Cross Country Team
-Nov 25th: Turkey Trot for Socorro Storehouse
-Dec 11th: Toys for local kids
Our first race is September 18th at 9am and the in-person option will start at the Snake Statue on East Rd near EMRTC. Registration fee is $5 and proceeds will go to the Socorro Hospital. Anyone, near and far, can register online via https://runsignup.com/Race/NM/Socorro/SSR5kFallSeries In person registration is also available (cash only.) If participating locally, please wear a mask when congregating at the start/finish line and practice social distancing while on the course. Let's keep each other safe and healthy! If participating virtually, your race can be completed anytime Saturday or Sunday.
